National Pool Lifeguard Qualification The Royal Life Saving NPLQ course is the most widely recognised qualification in the UK and is also recognised Internationally.  Who is this class for? This course is aimed at Candidates over 16 years who would like to work as a Lifeguard, or anyone wanting to start a career in the Leisure Industry. What will you learn? This course involves a minimum of 36 hours training.  It determines a candidates knowledge, understanding and application of the principles of working as a pool lifeguard and of their ability in a range of lifesaving skills as they relate to emergency situations that could happen in any pool. The training and assessment are divided into three sections: Section 1: The Lifeguard Section 2: Intervention, Rescue and Emergency Action Plan Section 3: CPR, AED and First Aid Prerequisites Must be 16 years of age prior to assessment Complete a minimum of 38 contact hours of theory and practical training Be able to meet basic fitness criteria: Jump/dive into deep water Swim 50 metres in no more than 60 seconds Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back In deep water tread water for 30 seconds Surface dive to the floor of the pool Climb out of pool unaided without ladder/steps
