Open Water Swimming Courses and Lifesaving

I am so excited to add Open Water Swimming to my courses!!

Having regularly swum in Open Water lakes for the last few years myself I know how enjoyable, therapeutic and totally addictive it is!!!

I will be providing different courses for everyone this season at the best Open Water Swimming locations in Surrey!  Whether you are totally new to Open Water and fancy something different, or want to start training and complete your first Triathlon.  Courses for both Adults and children, swimming or lifesaving or a bit of both!!!

Level 1 - Intro to Open Water

This course is designed for those new to Open Water Swimming or nervous swimmers.  We learn about the equipment used for Open Water swimming i.e Wetsuits, caps, pull buoy.  We discuss how we put a wetsuit on and how they work in the water.  We discuss the Safety aspect of Open water swimming, what to do in an emergency, if we panic and how to alert attention. Once in the lake we learn about acclimatizing ourselves in the water and buoyancy.  We practice the concept of breathing in the water and basic stroke technique.

Level 2 - Strokes and Techniques

This course is designed for those who are comfortable in open Water and want to improve their stroke and technique.  We recap on the basic skills of putting on a wetsuit, buoyancy, and acclimatizing to the water and then move onto stroke work.  We learn the over arm technique in front crawl and practice drills to improve the body roll.  We learn about breathing and sighting in preparation for swimming with others or in a race.  We also learn about turning and swimming close to the markers and how to navigate an Open Water course.

AquaPups Open Water

I have designed this course to teach children Basic Lifesaving and First Aid skills as well as an introduction to Open Water Swimming.  The course is a mixture of Theory and Practical work both in and out of the water.  The theory side covers identifying and avoiding hazards, Dealing with a Conscious/Unconscious casualty, Recovery Position, CPR and the basic First Aid skills of identifying and dealing with common injuries and illnesses such as Asthma, Bleeding, Shock and choking.  The water work introduces the children to Open Water, how to put on and take off a wetsuit, acclimatizing to the water, safety signs and communication, buoyancy and flotation and stroke work.

Open Water Lifesaving

This course is accredited by the Royal Lifesaving Society and the qualification lasts for two years.  It allows the candidate to lifeguard an Open Water venue.  The course can be competed in two ways:

1 day Bolt on course - For those who have a valid NPLQ qualification.  This course is added on to the NPLQ to allow trained lifeguards to work in Open Water Venues.  It covers the Hazards and rescues in the Open Water.

3 Day course - For those who have no prior Lifesaving qualification and wasn't to Lifeguard in the Open Water.  This course cover the Basic Life Support skills and techniques and all of the information and rescues needed for an Open Water Lifeguard.
